EMDR (Eye Movement Destination Reprocessing Therapy)
Sunset Malibu clients who sufferer from anxiety or traumatic events, can now gain relief from our cutting-edged therapy called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). Research shows that EMDR is rapid, safe and effective in treating trauma. EMDR does not involve the use of drugs or hypnosis. It is a simple therapy where the Sunset therapist and client work in a collaborative way, where healing can effectively take place.
EMDR is a type of psychotherapy which helps people recover from difficult memories, especially traumatic ones. EMDR has also been used to effectively treat addictions, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, panic attacks and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Many people in recovery from addictions have experienced serious trauma in their lives. Some of these old traumatic memories lead to repeated relapses. EMDR appears to be particularly effective for people in addiction, many of whom have suffered physical and sexual trauma that may resurface if the alcohol and/or other drug is removed. EMDR stimulates the right and left hemispheres of the brain, which decreases the intense emotions associated with the trauma, resulting in the processing of psychological difficulties. By alleviating the emotional effect of the original trauma EMDR can help the person face reality without supportive drugs and/or alcohol.
