Alcoholism is a disease and it must be treated like one
Alcoholism is no one’s fault. There’s a stigma attached to alcohol abuse in most corners of polite society, but that doesn’t mean the stigma has any legitimacy. The truth is that alcoholism is a disease, and like all diseases it can’t be consciously or willfully controlled by its victims. On the contrary, alcohol addiction is not and can never be a choice. Unfortunately, the same logic applies to alcohol recovery.
No alcoholic ever gets sober without medical help. Whoever you are, however “in control” you might believe yourself to be, you can only achieve lasting sobriety if you enroll in a professional alcohol rehab center. You wouldn’t expect a cancer patient to get better without the assistance of an oncologist. By the same token, you shouldn’t expect an alcoholism victim to get better without the care of an alcohol rehab specialist. The right choice here is the one you can’t afford not to make. Don’t wait any longer to finally do what you must.
