Open Up Your Eyes

Alcoholism treatment is never really finished. Alcoholism, after all, is a remarkably resilient disease, and most “recovered” alcoholics continue to battle cravings throughout their lives. The key, of course, lies in developing the skills and strength to stay sober over the long run, which is why alcoholism treatment must promote long-term healing. In the end, anything less than that simply won’t get the job done.

The practical implications here are twofold. First, alcoholism treatment facilities must prepare their clients for life in the “real world” after the completion of their primary rehab programs, first and foremost by providing extensive sober living services during the transition period. No less importantly, facilities must help clients establish themselves in independent 12 Step support groups, thereby ensuring that they have access to the right resources as they continue their fights against addiction. Without both of these adjuncts, alcoholism treatment can never be successful over the long run. You owe it to yourself to find a professional rehab center that can give you everything you need to get better for good.
